Christian Eriksen – Let’s Learn something 2021.

Welcome to Medical Advice Channel. I know all of you know about Christian Eriksen. If not, do not worry I will tell you something about him, and what happened to him in the past few days that made the whole world so concerned.

Who is Christian Eriksen?

Christian Eriksen is a Danish professional football star who plays for the famous Inter Milan football club. Inter Milan is a Serie A team in (country). He has also played well-known football clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax.

He is also a key player in his country’s national team, The Denmark National Team where he plays as a Central Midfielder. Eriksen Was born in 1992 in Middlefart, Denmark. His full name is Christian Dannemann Eriksen.

He made a debut for his country’s national team in the 2010 World Cup, whereby was the youngest player in that competition. Christian is a star in his country, and this is evident because he has won the Danish player of the year award more than four times.

What Happened To Christian Eriksen?

The euro 2020 competition is ongoing, and Denmark is a part of it, is also participating in the competition. On the second day of the competition, Denmark was playing against Finland in the opener games. At about the 90th minute, Christian Eriksen collapsed after having a cardiac arrest. The incident caused the match to be cancelled.

The medical personnel had to perform CPR to resuscitate him. They reported that, if they had not done it, then he would have passed away.

Let’s Learn About Cardiac Arrest

What is Cardiac Arrest?

Let us see if we can learn something from Christian Eriksen’s condition. So a cardiac arrest is a condition where the heart stops beating unexpectedly. This causes loss of breathing ability and consciousness. If first aid, in terms of CPR, is not done immediately, it could lead to death.

The main signs and symptoms include;

  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Unresponsiveness.

Cardiac arrest can also be called sudden cardiac arrest, and in the case of Christian Eriksen, you can see the sign and symptoms very clearly because he lost consciousness and was unresponsive.

How Cardiac Arrest is Treated?

The treatment and management of sudden cardiac arrest involves the following major parts;

  • At the site of the event

This is a very crucial part, where CPR has to be performed. In simple terms, CPR helps ensure that blood is still flowing to all parts of the body, including the brain, which is very important to prevent the death of organs and tissues.

In the case of Christian Eriksen, you can note the medical did stop the game to perform CPR on Eriksen. This swift choice saved the life of Christian Eriksen.

If CPR fails to kickstart the heart and normal breathing, then a defibrillator machine may be used. I will make a more detailed article on defibrillator machines and how they are used in the future. In simple terms, a defibrillator machine delivers a shock that enables the heart to start pumping on its own again.

  • Longterm Management.

Long term management of patients like Christian Eriksen may include;

  1. Treatment of Arrhythmias using Antiarrhythmic drugs. The doctor may also recommend the use of ACE – Inhibitors and Calcium Channel Blockers. The ACE – inhibitor will try and relieve the workload of the heart. The calcium channel blockers also use the same principle.
  2. The use of an ICD device. These are devices that will help the heartbeat properly. They work by monitoring the hearts activities. If they sense the heart rate is too low, they deliver some amount of shock to kickstart it again. They work like the SA node.
  3. Do a Coronary Angioplasty Procedure
  4. A Coronary Bypass Surgery can be done.
  5. Corrective heart surgery can be the last option in some cases.

How is Christian Eriksen Doing Now?

Currently, Christian Eriksen is doing great. He has been receiving treatment. He has also received an ICD to hell his heart. We wish him well.
