Are you tired of experiencing dropped calls and poor-quality calls when communicating with your loved ones? This advanced technology was developed to give you the power to make high-quality voice calls with faster setup times, to ensure you talk to your friends, relatives and business partners with ease.
In this article, I tell you what VoLTE is, its benefits and downsides, and how you can enable this setting on your Android or Apple device with ease. Before we proceed, remember to subscribe to my blog so that you can support my work and share it so that I can reach a larger audience.
What is VoLTE?
Voice over LTE is an advanced calling technology which was designed to help the user make calls and have internet access at the same time. If you have been observant enough, you will notice that in devices that don’t have VoLTE enabled, their network tends to switch to a lower level, for example, 4G switches to 3G, and the internet connection is turned off until you finish the call. This is system is known as Traditional circuit-switched voice calls that can multitask to allow calls and data to work together.
VoLTE on the other hand utilises IP-based tech that can simultaneously handle both data and calls making it more resource efficient, with better call load-up time and improve high-quality audio between users.
Do All Smartphones Support VoLTE
Not all devices support VoLTE, and not all mobile carriers support the Network. In Kenya mobile networks like Safaricom have it. If your device does not support it, then you should probably upgrade the device to a better one. Some of my recommendations include the Tecno Camon 18 Premier or the cheaper economical Neon Ray Pro. Read my Review article on the Tecno Camon 18 Premier and the other review on the Neon Ray Pro that you can get via Safaricom Lipa Mdogo Mdogo.
However, on the bright side, most newer devices come compatible with VoLTE and will only require you to turn it on when you want to use it via your Smartphone’s settings. The other good thing is that it can be found on both Android phones and IOS phones. So you can see that as time passes by, more and more people will be connected to VoLTE.
Benefit of VoLTE
Faster Call Build-Up times: Voice over LTE calls gets faster call setup time than traditional calls.
High Call Quality: Its advanced technology ensures you get high call quality with reduced background noises and clear call quality.
Improved call coverage and reliability: VoLTE utilizes the 4G network, unlike the traditional one that used 3G, or even 2G. This makes it more dependable as it can be accessed anywhere at the same quality, even in your basement.
Multitasking: With this call setting, you will be able to call while still connected to the internet. This means that your download won’t be stopped until you finish making your call. How cool is that!
Better Battery Saving: During the switching from 4G to 3G or lower, there is usually an increased battery consumption. With this setting, power consumption is reduced due to its efficiency.
Limitations of VoLTE
Not All Headsets are VoLTE Compatible: As I mentioned earlier, not all smartphones come with VoLTE enabled. Those whose smartphones don’t have this feature have to upgrade, therefore increasing the cost.
Increased Data Consumption: Voice over LTE requires you to have internet data bundles in order for it to work. As you know, data especially in Kenya is costly and those who do not have it will not have access to high-quality VoLTE calls. If you are low on data when reading this article, read about how you can buy credit for your airtel line using your Mpesa because Airtel bundles are cheaper.
