Breaking: KUCO Announces Posting of Interns to Enhance Clinical Skills and Improve Healthcare Sector

KUCO On Posting Of CO Interns

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has today made an announcement regarding the posting of their interns to various locations within the next two weeks. According to George Gibore, who is the Secretary General of KUCO, this decision was made after a meeting with Dr Josephine Mburu, the Principal Secretary of State Development of Health Standards and Professional Management at the Ministry of Health.

This news has been well received by both the interns and the union, who have been eagerly waiting for an opportunity to gain practical experience in their field. The posting of interns will provide them with the chance to enhance their clinical skills and apply them to real-life situations. This internship is not only beneficial in giving them the necessary experience but is also a requirement they must have before getting a practising license.

This development highlights the continuous efforts made by KUCO to safeguard the rights and welfare of its members. The union has consistently advocated for better working conditions and salaries for clinical officers, which have resulted in tangible improvements in their field.

What Opportunities Posting Of Clinical Officers Interns Provides

The recent announcement also represents a significant step towards achieving better remuneration for diploma interns, in line with the guidelines set forth by the Public Service Commission. Clinical officers are currently being offered peanuts as a stipend unlike their colleagues in the medical field, who are paid according to their job group. KUCO’s advocacy for better compensation has undoubtedly motivated its members to continue their fight for their rights.

In his statement, Gibore expressed his appreciation to all KUCO members for their unwavering support and reiterated the importance of unity in achieving their common goals. He emphasized that “Our bargaining power lies in our unity, but we will beg if we are divided.”

The clinical officers have responded positively to this news, expressing their gratitude to KUCO for their unrelenting efforts to promote their rights. The posting of interns is expected to have a beneficial impact on the healthcare sector by contributing to the development of a highly skilled workforce in the country.

This comes as the union’s Social Media channels were flooded with concerns by Clinical Officer Interns who had not been posted since September last year even after passing their board exams. Many questioned if the union was doing its work properly in ensuring the interns were posted on time.

This announcement has tried to ease the tension and hope has been restored for the interns who have been confused in the past few months because they can’t even get a job in their local clinics just because they have not completed their internship, which will open up the opportunity to own a license, get a job and build their careers as clinical officers going forward.

In conclusion, the posting of clinical interns is a significant achievement for KUCO and its members, signifying their ongoing commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of clinical officers. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the healthcare sector in Kenya. What remains for us to wait and see if this will indeed take place, just like how Medical Officers Interns were also promised some months ago and they were indeed posted.
