How To Share Laptop Screen Using HDMI Cable

In this article, I will show you how you could project your laptop screen onto your tv using an HDMI cable. To project your laptop screen using HDMI, you will need to connect an HDMI cable to your laptop and display device such as a tv monitor with an HDMI input port.

  • Locate the HDMI output port on your laptop. this is typically a small, rectangular port with an HDMI logo next to it.
  • Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output port on your laptop. The location of the HDMI port will vary in different laptops and computers. In most laptops, you will find the HDMI port either on the right side of the laptop or the left side, as shown in the diagram below.HDMI port location on a Laptop. Most HDMI ports can be found either on the right side or left side of the laptop
  • Locate the HDMI input port on the display device. this is also typically a small, regular port with an HDMI logo next to it. On most TVs, it is usually located on the back side of the television as shown in the image below.
  • Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input port on the display device. The HDMI port on most TVs is commonly located on the back of most TVs as shown in the image I have provided below.HDMI port on the back of a TV
  • Turn on the display device and select the correct HDMI input using the display device’s remote control or on-screen menu. On most remotes, you will see a “Source” button, when you click on it, you will see the “HDMI” 1, “And HDMI 2” options, select the appropriate one. For example, if you used the HDMI 1 port on the back of your TV, then on the source section of your TV menu, select the “HDMI 1” option.
  • The screen of your laptop should now be displayed on the display device. if the display does not appear, you may need to adjust your laptop’s display settings or check that the cable is connected correctly.

If your laptop does not have an HDMI output port, you may be able to use a different type of video output port, such as VGA or DVI, to connect to the display device using an appropriate adapter or cable.

How To Check if HDMI cable is high quality

When buying an HDMI cable, it is important that you get the best quality that will last longer. There are a few ways to determine the quality of an HDMI cable:

Check the rating:

HDMI cables are rated by their speed or bandwidth. A high-quality HDMI cable will have a higher speed rating, such as “high speed” or “Ultra High Speed”, which indicates that it can support higher resolution and refresh rates.

Look for certifications:

HDMI cables that have been certified by the HDMI Licensing Administrator(HDMI LA) are more likely to be high quality. Look for the HDMI logo and the “Certified HDMI Cable” logo on the packaging or the cable itself.

Check the connectors:

High-quality HDMI cables will have gold-plated connectors, which provide a better connection and are less prone to corrosion. the connectors should also be well-made and securely attached to the cable.

Test the cable:

One way to determine the quality of an HDMI cable is to try it out and see if it works as expected. If the cable is high quality, you should be able to transmit high-resolution video and audio with minimal signal degradation or interference. If you input your HDMI cable and you see that there are some hitches, you should probably return it. This is why it is important to buy your HDMI cable from a credible source.
