CURB – 65 Score – Pneumonia
What is CURB- 65 score?
CURB – 65 score is used by medical practitioners in the assessment of disease severity in pneumonia.
C – Confusion: We can defined confusion as the state of someone not being aware of whats happening in the environment around them.
U – Serum Urea – Serum Urea levels that is less 7mmol/l(milli moles/litre).
R – Respiratory rate less than 30 cycles/min
B – Blood Pressure of systolic less than 90mmHg and Diastolic pressure of less than 60mmHg. 65 – 65 or more years.
Score one for every feature that is present. For example, if a patient has episodes of confusion, they get one point. Please keep in mind that the maximum number that can be allocated is 5.
Interpretation of CURB – 65 SCORE.
A score of 0-1 – The patient is suitable for home treatment.
If they get a score of 2 – hospitalization is required. There should be supervised Treatment. The either have a short stay at the inpatient or hospital supervised outpatient.
A Score of more than or equal to 3 – admit the patient for an inpatient management.
A Score 4 or 5 – this patients should be prepared for ICU admission.
