Welcome to Medical Advice Channel, today’s article is going to be a bit funny because we are going to name some of the names in medicine. A fan of my blog gave me this idea, she asked me to mention some great names in medicine parents could use to name their children. I thought of it as a good idea, and so, here I am.

Did you know that some of the names in medicine are the real names of people? This is true, in medicine, drugs or conditions are usually named after the people who discovered them. For example, the name Goodpasture’s syndrome was named after Ernest Goodpasture in 1919. His name is now one of the great names in medicine.

I bet you also have an idea like the one I gave. Well, maybe yours could be different. Now let’s look after some other great names in medicine. I will list them in alphabetical order. Please note that I won’t be able to list all of them.

Great Names In Medicine - Aspergers syndrome

This is one of the AST disorders. Patients with Asperger’s syndrome have a difficulty in expressing nonverbal messages. They do have normal intelligence. The disease discovery was by Dr Hans Asperger in 1944. This discovery is what has made his name be among the great names in medicine.

  • Alzheimer’s disease

Aloysius Alzheimer - Great names in medicine

Alzheimer’s disease is a disease that mostly affects older people, let’s say 65year and above. These patients present with symptoms of dementia. The disease discovery was by Aloysius Alzheimer.

  • Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Great names in Medicine - Dr James Hodgkin

This is a type of lymphoma that affects the lymph nodes of a person. Patients will always present will swollen lymph nodes. The condition was first discovered by Dr Thomas Hodgkin, who was, by the way, a pioneer of preventative medicine. Dr Hodgkin was a surgeon, political activist and geologist.

Parkinson’s disease was first detected by Dr James Parkinson. Apart from being a surgeon, he was also well known for being a strong advocate for the rights of the underprivileged.

  • Down syndrome

Dr James Langdon Down

This condition affects the chromosomes of children causing delayed development and growth. It is a genetic disorder, meaning that it can pass from parents to their children. The syndrome was first described by Dr John Langdon Down in 1866 but wasn’t proven until 1957.
